Bangkok restaurants review
I've been trying very hard to resist the temptation of starting a food blog in SG. Now that I relocated to Bangkok, everyone is simply asking me about restaurant recommendations. Well, Bangkok has lots of street food and hawker stalls, and some are pretty good. But at the end of the day, we also want to go to restaurants with the air-conditioning especially during their hot seasons. So here's a list of some popular restaurants in Bangkok, but with my added opinions on them. Simple summary review on each one as I am writing from memory, after having finally conceded to a request for a list from someone..
- Nahm - Good Thai food, but after going there 3 times, it feels like the standard has dropped somewhat and turned salty. Durian sticky rice is outstanding. Mid range pricing.
- Eat Me - Food more impressive than Nahm, but it's western style. Not bad.
- Issaya Siamese Club - Creative Thai food, generally of good quality. Some dishes are very nice but pricing a bit on the higher side. Location is hard to find but environment there is good.
- Le Du - One of the best value for money restaurants. Food is decent and price is good.
- Le Beaulieu - Supposedly the best French restaurant in Bangkok (until Joel Robuchon arrived of course..). Expensive but good quality. You might bump into 'high society' people there.
- Bo Lan - Nice environment but full of mosquitoes. Food was too spicy for me to appreciate.
- Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin - Modern and extremely creative Thai food, very very very good. Pricing is at the higher end of the range but I always felt it's worth the money.
- Joel Robuchon - French food that never fails me. Just opened on Christmas eve last year. Out of the world food, but price is extremely high too (i.e. exhorbitant). You can try the one in SG as well, also damn expensive.
- Enoteca - Nice italian food in a nice environment. Decent pricing.
- Whale's Belly - Starting was good but main course and dessert somewhat disappointing. Also with their pricing on the higher end, it doesn't feel like it's worth going.
- Long Table - Ok quality food, not outstanding. Focus is on the view from that location.
- Smith - Decent meats in an industralised setting. Good for meat eaters.
- Signature restaurant @ Ku De Ta - Good food, but servings are rather small. May need to spend quite a lot of money if you wanna feel full.
- Soul Food - Simple but tasty Thai food, generally catered to foreigners taste.
- Scarlett - Good food and nice view, but pricing also on the higher end
- Zuma - One of the better Japanese restaurants in Bangkok. Similar to Ku De Ta, servings are small and you will need to spend a lot of money to be full.
- Blue Elephant - Authentic Thai food but rather expensive and commercialised. Good, but not overwhelmingly outstanding given the price it charges.
- Cabbages and Condoms - Normal Thai food, rather expensive for the quality it serves
- El Gaucho - Very good steaks. Although rather expensive, I feel it's worth the quality.
- DiD - Dine in the Dark by Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. If you had tried Nox in SG before, then don't bother doing this one. Food quality and style are better in Nox. However, if you have never tried dining in the dark before, you can still give this a shot. Food is not too bad.
If you need reviews or help on other restaurants, just let me know cos I may not have covered everything I have tried here. :)
